Pertamina and LanzaTech agree to develop urban waste-based energy tech

May 12, 2026 |

In Indonesia, Pertamina and LanzaTech signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop technology-based low-carbon energy solutions focusing on the development of waste to fuel technology, especially the conversion of urban waste into ethanol through the fermentation process.

This initiative is expected to answer the challenges of waste management while opening new opportunities in the alternative energy sector and the carbon-based chemical industry recycling.

In terms of business, this collaboration opens up the potential for the development of circular economy-based value chains ranging from waste processing, ethanol production, to the utilization of derivative products such as mixed fuels and chemical industry raw materials. This model has the potential to create new sources of income while increasing the efficiency of waste and energy management.
