In the United Kingdom, rumors are suggesting that funeral plans for Prince Phillip, who died on April 9, will honor the Queen consort’s ecological activism by using a biodegradable coffin made of wool.
Produced by textile company A.W. Hainsworth, the “Natural Legacy” coffins consist of wool fitted around a cardboard frame reinforced with base board.
The Duke’s coffin will also be transported in an electric Land Rover he himself had a hand in designing.
“Wool is a fiber with a true ‘green’ lineage. An annually renewable and truly sustainable resource it is mother nature’s own smart fiber , highly functional and perfect for multiple uses whilst being fully biodegradable,” says A.W. Hainsworth, which has also provided military uniforms for the Royal Family. The Natural Legacy coffin retails for a modest $A1,600 (USD$1,219). Farm Online first reported the news.
