In the United Kingdom, designer Alice Turner has introduced a conceptual countertop bioreactor device that would, in the future, allow consumers to grow their own meat.

Dubbed Carnerie, Turner believes such a device will be feasible about 20 years in the future. The app-controlled machine would employ technology currently being developed by cultivated meat companies. Theoretically, consumers could order capsules that would allow the machine to grow the desired type of meat.

According to the FAO, over a quarter of global land use is allocated to animal grazing and growing feed for animals. Meat production also accounts for 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions
