In Germany, cosmetics company biana GmbH & Co. KG is switching to renewable packaging for its line of natural skin care products.
The company will swap conventional polyethylene packaging to tubes made from spruce wood and sugarcane. Dubbed PICEA and produced by Neopac, the tubes use wood sourced from industrial saw waste and polyethylene made from sugarcane ethanol. About 5% of the packaging will include plastic additives and pigments.
biana is all about “nature to the core,” CEO Nicki Gregor Streit tells Packaging World. “From our point of view, the development toward a sustainable company is an urgent necessity, and we want to take a pioneering role in the cosmetics world. Essential for the complete biana range is the particularly high-quality, cold-pressed grape seed oil. Of course, a sustainable orientation also includes a sustainable tube.”
The range includes a 50-mL hand cream, 75-mL day cream, 75-mL night cream, and 100-mL body lotion, and is sold exclusively in German pharmacies.
