In Iowa, a biobased adhesives producer is gaining traction as it looks to make everything from e-commerce to yearbook bindings a little more sustainable.

Bio-Bond, founded four years ago by Kristen Thomas and her husband, has already had sales success throughout North America. “Packaging is the future — just look at Amazon,” Thomas tells the Telegraph Herald. “And we are basically going to change the whole packaging industry.”

The company already has produced 300,000 lbs of its most popular adhesive, Bio-Bond 777, using “stamped out” gelatin—essentially the byproduct of the process used to produce capsules for supplements.

“We totally close the sustainability loop,” Richard Thomas adds. said. “That is a unique propositional value that we can bring to the table.”
