In India, several leading oil marketing companies have partnered to build manufacturing centers for biodegradable sanitary napkins.

The centers, to be opened in Odisha, will use feedstocks such as virgin wood pulp sheet, non-woven white sheets, and a biodegradable gel sheet. Each facility will produce 1,200-2,000 sanitary napkins per day and employ five to six women. One hundred facilities will be set up at a cost of Rs 2.94 crore.

According to India’s National Family Health Service, less than half of rural women ages 15-24 in Odisha use hygienic feminine hygiene products.
