In Micronesia, Green Banana Paper, a maker of banana fiber-based leather substitute, will be introducing its second product—a slimmer version of its original wallet. The company has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund production.

Founder Matt Simpson tells Plant-Based News its material is a “tough, tear-resistant mat of fibers forged into thick sheets of paper. It’s not as strong as leather as it is much thinner, but it is suitable for many purposes and applications for our daily lives.”

The company buys agricultural waste from over 100 local farms in Micronesia, Simpson adds.
