In New Zealand, following Air New Zealand’s call to arms for partners to produce aviation biofuels along with Virgin Australia, about 30 companies have stepped forward to take the two airlines up on their offer to develop the industry regionally together. ANZ’s CEO says that aviation biofuels are a long term bet as scale is difficult to achieve but that it is important to continue working towards commercial production. The chair of the company’s sustainability panel said the airline industry had to be very sober in making projects about aviation biofuels.
