In Egypt, researchers found that the antioxidant properties of gingko biloba can help protect the brain from the effects of aluminum overexposure. High amounts of aluminum has been linked to neurological illnesses like Alzheimer’s and other brain related diseases. Researchers found when they gave some of the 24 rats in their laboratory that all had high aluminum exposure, those that were given gingko biloba had healthier brains, more antioxidants, and less of the harmful TBARS than the rats that were not given ginkgo biloba. Their study concluded that ginkgo biloba’s antioxidant properties could help improve brain function for those with overexposure to aluminum, which some people have due to aluminum amounts in everyday products like deodorant and in the environment.
