In Florida, drones are moving beyond agriculture or even sea exploration and into everyday life. Delivery company UPS tested drones for delivering packages in the past, but they just launched a delivery drone for the first time from a UPS electric van that has a recharging station right in it to run the battery-powered drone. With a 30 minute flight time and ability to carry up to a 10 pound package, the delivery drone could be an efficient way for UPS to get packages delivered to people in rural areas or farms and large landowners who have long driveways that slow UPS delivery drivers. The delivery driver doesn’t even need to leave their truck as the drone sits in a cage in the truck’s roof hatch and the driver uses a touch screen to send the drone on its way to the delivery address.
