In London, sustainability focused apparel company Pangaia has unveiled an enhanced version of its Flwrdwn biobased down alternative as part of the new DNA Flower Warmth collection.

Originally launched in 2019, Flwrdwn combines hand-harvested wildflowers, biopolymer, and aerogel to create a breathable material that serves as an alternative to traditional down. The wildflowers are sourced from native prairies and cultivated without pesticides or irrigation.

The latest iteration of Flwrdwn features an 83% increase in fill power, achieved through modifications in the processing of the biopolymer. Fill power is measured by the cubic inches occupied by 30 grams of the material in lab tests.

The DNA Flower Warmth collection showcases three jacket styles insulated with Flwrdwn fill, featuring a recycled nylon exterior available in five colors: highland green, raisin purple, summit blue, black, and atmosphere gray. The collection includes a cropped puffer jacket for women, an oversized unisex puffer with a high-neck collar and detachable hood, and a unisex Flwrdwn gilet that can be worn on its own or layered for added warmth.

“As a fashion brand, we have to operate responsibly,” Rory Hugill, Pangaia’s senior innovation portfolio manager, told Sourcing Journal.
