In the UK, sustainable design firm Re:Right Design has created a pavilion for the upcoming Glastonbury performing arts festival that is meant to showcase the potential for bioplastics.

Re:Right tells dezeen its Hayes Pavilion is made from an easily compostable seaweed biomaterial that was developed but firm cofounder Leksi Kostur over several years.

“Our goal with these installations is to start showing what’s possible with these materials, practically and aesthetically,” said Kostur. “We’re pushing the boundaries in terms of size and scale.” Last year, the firm used mycelium to insulate its festival pavilion.

The 2024 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is scheduled to take place June 26–30 in Somerset with headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, and Shania Twain.
