In Brazil, a precision fermentation startup developing milk proteins without cows, is set to begin scaling production.

Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Leonardo Vieira and food scientist Rosana Goldbeck, Future Cow is supported by a $150,000 initial investment from São Paulo’s Antler residency program, which was followed by a R$2 million (US$410,000) funding led by Antler and Big Idea Ventures.

“With the world’s growing population, increasing food insecurity and climate change, the need to reduce risks in food supply chains and production methods has never been more urgent. The production of alternative proteins emerges as a viable solution to these challenges,” the company said.

In addition to being more sustainable, Future Cow’s milk proteins are free of hormones, pesticides, lactose, and antibiotics.

Additional details on location and capacity were not disclosed.
