In the United Kingdom, Holiferm and Fibenol will jointly develop biosurfactants from wood residues. The partnership will leverage Fibenol’s wood-based sugars and Holiferm’s fermentation expertise to produce sustainable alternatives to petrochemical- and palm oil-based surfactants.

“Even though we are still young and relatively small companies, we believe that by working together, we can have a bigger impact and create faster solutions to tackle the climate challenge,” Joana Pereira, Business Development Manager at Holiferm, said in a press statement. “Besides, this collaboration is a significant step forward in our mission to manufacture on a net zero scope 3 basis, which will only be possible if we transition to even more sustainable raw materials.”

The collaboration is expected to have a “significant impact” on industries such as home and personal care, textiles, agriculture, paints, and coatings.
