In Brooklyn, Tarform has launched an electric motorcycle that incorporates several biobased materials.

Dubbed Luna, the bike’s body is made from a flaxseed and biobased resin composite dyed with algae-based pigments. A leather alternative made from either pineapple, mango, or corn is used for the Luna’s seat, and recycled aluminum is used for its frame. Additionally, the motorcycle’s modular design will enable Tarform to prolong usable life.

“The idea was to create the motorcycle of tomorrow,” Tarform lead designer and CEO Taras Kravtchouk tells vegconomist. “If you were to build a bike with sustainability in mind, what principles would it be? Electric, but also with the least harm to our environment.”
