In California, massively popular YouTuber Mr. Beast has sampled cultivated chicken, a move producer Upside Foods hopes will boost younger generations’ interest in lab-grown meat.

Upside Foods founder and CEO Uma Valeti uploaded photos from the visit to the company’s California facility onto LinkedIn, captioning a photo: “What if we can have the best of both worlds… LOVE chicken and LOVE chickens!”.

MrBeast – real name Jimmy Donaldson – is known for large-scale stunts and philanthropic efforts. He has 460 million followers on YouTube. He is particularly popular with Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

Early-stage foodtech investor Steve Simitzis, as quoted by Green Queen, described the event as cultivated meat’s “MrBeast moment”, also known as the moment a category crosses over from niche into mainstream.
