In Prague, BeneMeat, a cultivated meat company targeting pet food, revealed that 90% of dog owners participating in a 25-country “Try  & Share” lab-grown dog treat trial report that their dogs enjoyed the “treatos.”

The trial, which is on its third month, also revealed 85% of respondents would buy the treats were they on the market, and most (91%) said ethical considerations were the main reason they participated in the trial.

Another 79.7% said they wanted their dogs’ diet to include meat that is free of antibiotics and hormones commonly used in factory farming.

“The results confirm that cultivated meat has its place in pet food,” Jan Luprich, Strategic Partnerships Lead at BeneMeat, told vegconomist. “People appreciate not only the taste of the treats but especially the ethics and the transparent way in which they are produced.”

The trial is still open for new entrants.
