In Singapore, iced lattes made from beanless coffee and cow-free proteins pulled from air will be available shortly in a preview at the country’s One Financial Centre.

The innovative beverage, named GRe:en Drop Coffee and sold by Ajinomoto Group, starts with mixing conventional coffee with a “coffee extender” made via fermentation by a Singapore startup named Prefer. A mixture of oat milk and proteins produced via microbial fermentation of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and oxygen by Finland’s Solar Foods provides the “dairy” component of the latte.

“The partnership with Ajinomoto is a positive signal for the future of coffee. With their innovative mindset, the industry and coffee lovers are in good hands,” Prefer co-founder and CEO Jake Berber tells Green Queen. He goes on to call the latte “damn tasty.”
