At the core of this partnership is Enzyme Supplies’ tailored enzymatic solutions, which are now being integrated into Celtic Renewables’ acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation process. This innovation significantly enhances the breakdown of complex organic feedstocks – including by-products from the whisky industry – into fermentable sugars, enabling more efficient and scalable production of green chemicals.
“This collaboration is a major step forward in commercializing our technology at scale,” Lorna Woodcock, Head of Research, Technical & Innovation at Celtic Renewables, said in a company blog post. “By harnessing the power of Enzyme Supplies’ biocatalysts, we’re able to increase yields, reduce processing times, and expand the range of waste and by-product materials we can valorize.”
The partnership is already being piloted at Celtic Renewables’ biorefinery facility in Grangemouth, with plans to expand the integrated solution across future plants.
