In Germany, Artificial Nature S.L. has scaled up production of its biobased and biodegradable copolyester PLH to 300 metric tons per year.  The milestone was achieved in collaboration with an unnamed industrial partner at Germany’s Leverkusen Chempark.

Dubbed Dan*na, PLH boasts roughly a quarter of the CO2 emissions of its petroleum-based counterparts. It is made from biobased lactic acid, which is already proven at scale as a precursor for the major bioplastic polylactic acid.

Artificial Nature aims to begin selling the material to the consumer and electronics markets in 2026.

“With the validation of the industrial scale-up and its characterization, we have confirmed that PLH is a viable alternative to fossil-based engineering plastics. This achievement opens the way to markets where sustainability and high technology go hand in hand,” says Xavier Marin, CEO and founder.
