In South Africa, Prince William rocked biobased sneakers at the annual award ceremony for his Earthshot Prize competition.
Several well-known brands, including Allbirds and Cariuma, tout the renewable content of their sneakers, although the Manila Times report did not provide more details on the Prince’s footwear.
The Prince of Wales launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020. The prize will hand out £50 million over 10 years to organizations working to address the world’s most persistent environmental problems. Each year, the prize awards five winners £1 million ($1.96 million) each.
This year’s winners include an American company that developed technology to use heat waste from heavy industries to generate electricity, a Ghanaian organization that trains people to collect and manage waste, and a Kazakhstan conservation group that is protecting a vast grassland and saving the Saiga antelope from extinction.
“We want to make this the decade in which we transform the world for good, one solution at a time, from the ground up,” Prince William said at the event.
Celebrity attendees included Heidi Klum and Billy Porter.
