In Delaware, Covation Biomaterials has appointed Steven Ackerman as CEO, succeeding Dean Trivits. Ackerman previously served as Covation’s Vice President of Product & Technology.

With over 15 years of expertise in sustainable materials, Ackerman has consistently demonstrated leadership in developing high-performance biobased products for global markets. He joined DuPont Biomaterials in 2010, where he played a pivotal role in the growth and innovation of the Sorona® poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) business. Following the 2022 spin-off that led to the formation of Covation Biomaterials, Ackerman continued to drive technical advancement and global expansion.

Sorona is derived from biobased 1,3-propanediol, a C3 molecule first scaled by DuPont in 2006. It is used in a range of applications including apparel, residential flooring, and sporting goods. Under Ackerman’s leadership, the company has strengthened collaboration between its global technology teams and commercial operations, fostering new applications for Sorona® fibers.

“The global demand for sustainable material innovation is undeniable,” Ackerman stated. “We’re committed to building on our strong foundation to deliver even greater value to our partners—and to the planet.”
