In Belgium, C-biotech has developed materials from hemp-fiber skins and mycelium for modular construction applications.

The company’s sandwich panels feature skins made of C-hemp – C-biotech’s hemp and natural binders composite that is rigid; satin-finished; and UV-, moisture-, fire- and abrasion-resistant –surrounding a mycelium core. Each panel is also carbon-negative, removing approximately 7.6 kg of CO₂ per square meter.

Development of the panels was supported by a Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship R&D grant. KU Leuven, Studio Cartier, and Bruijn Consulting also worked on the project.
