In London, Sheep Inc. claims it has designed the world’s first swim trunks made entirely of natural materials.
“Simply put: swim shorts until now have always relied on synthetic elements, either in the main fabric, the lining or both,” Sheep Inc co-founder Michael Wessely tells design publication Dezeen. “Even many ‘sustainable’ options use recycled polyester or bio-plastics. We spent two years eliminating every synthetic thread, from fabric to lining to trims, while ensuring they still performed as true swimwear.”
Most of the company’s trunks are made of Merino wool, and the mesh lining is composed of a biodegradable polymer. Often associated with winter clothes, the company says Merino wool fibers regulate temperature better than any lab-developed fabric, dry quickly, and wick away moisture. It is also naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant.
The lining is made of Yarnaway, a biodegradable alternative to plastic mesh.
