Bruce the dog reviews cultivated meat

In Scotland, Philip Lymbery, a journalist writing for The Scotsman has turned to his beloved pup Bruce to review Chick Bites dog treats, the first cultivated meat product to be approved for sale in the United Kingdom.

The first of the offered treats, which were a “Gotcha Day” present for the 50% Rottweiler, 100% Good Boy rescue dog, were immediately gobbled up out of Lymbery’s hand.

However, to gauge the treats’ desirability beyond novelty, Lymbery’s wife also placed some treats on a table. Lymbery writes, “[Bruce] sniffed around hoping for more. Then temptation got the better of his limited patience and he was up on his back legs. Before I could tell him otherwise, his tongue had swept up the ‘pawprints’ on the tabletop, leaving only a saliva trail behind. Bruce’s verdict? He loved them.”

The cultivated meat in Chick Bites was produced by Edinburgh’s Meatly. Lymbery hopes Bruce’s enthusiastic review helps humans overcome any “ick” they may feel about meat grown in a lab.
