In Belgium, Devan Chemicals is set to launch an innovative sleep-promoting textile made from a byproduct of Australian tea tree oil processing. Dubbed Devan Sleep Tight, the technology was proven to improve sleep quality and overall quality of life in an independent clinical trial.
The active ingredient acts by two complementary pathways—inhalation and skin contact—to improve nighttime benefits and skin regeneration to provide a healthier looking skin and revitalized look by morning.
The Devan Sleep Tight technology is based on microencapsulation and designed for use in textiles such as bedding and sleepwear. First, the active ingredients are encapsulated. Next, the biobased microcapsules are applied to the textile. The treated textiles touch skin and the capsules break due to friction between the body and the textile. The content of the biobased capsules is then released and absorbed by the skin, while the volatile components of the active ingredients are simultaneously inhaled.
Devan Sleep Tight will be available in the second quarter of this year.
