In Austria, The Lenzing Group has licensed its biobased acetic acid process to C.P.L. Prodotti Chimici srl for use in textile dying. Under the terms of the deal, Lenzing’s biobased acetic acid, which is a byproduct of pulp production, will be utilized by Oniverse, the parent company of the popular fashion brand Calzedonia, for dyeing textiles.

Federico Fraboni, head of sustainability at Oniverse, said the partnership is a model for how different supply chains can collaborate to reduce environmental impact. LENZING™ Acetic Acid Biobased, which boasts a carbon footprint over 85% lower than fossil-based acetic acid, is set to transform practices in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and textile industries, particularly in washing, dyeing, and finishing processes.
