In Nigeria, leading telecom operator MTN Nigeria has unveiled paper-based, biodegradable SIM cards as part of its commitment to sustainability.

The eco-friendly SIM cards will be available in select MTN stores in Lagos and Abuja as part of a pilot program. Transitioning from polyvinyl chloride-based SIM cards will help address plastic pollution and integrate sustainable practices within the company, which has 78 million subscribers.

“Our new eco-friendly SIM cards reflect our dedication to environmental responsibility and waste reduction,” said Tobe Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, at MTN Nigeria.
