In France, Arkema has announced a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of its biobased nylon 11 grades, now at 1.3 kg CO2e/kg—an 80% decrease compared to traditional fossil-based nylon. Arkema attributes the reduction to increased use of renewable electricity and enhanced energy efficiency at its production sites.

The milestone follows a previous 46% reduction announced in October 2023.  “The lower carbon footprint… allows our customers to deliver on their commitment to decarbonize and to develop more sustainable products at scale,” Erwoan Pezron, Senior Vice President, Arkema’s High Performance Polymers, said in a press statement. “Furthermore, we have a strong action plan in place to further decarbonize this range, with a 2030 target to reduce the carbon footprint by a further 50%. Our objective is to continue to offer our customers high-performance materials with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the market.”
