In Wisconsin, Michael Green Architects has designed a 55-story, 600-feet mass timber tower for the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee that, if built, would be the world’s tallest timber skyscraper. The building would also include residences, offices, restaurants, retail, and public space.
Brumunddal, Norway, currently boasts the world’s tallest timber building, at 280 feet. A 627-foot tower that would be 42% timber is under development in Perth, Australia, and a Swedish real estate developer hopes to build a series of wooden buildings in Stockholm.
“The race for height is important,” Michael Green, an architect and founder of MGA, told CNN. “It’s not about showing off, it’s about showing what’s possible to the public.”
