In California, Checkerspot and Cambium have partnered to develop biobased, impact-resistant, high temperature and flame-retardant polyurethane foam products and composite foam systems for high-performance applications.

Checkerspot’s microalgae-based polyols are already used to create biobased polyurethanes, and Cambium has developed a number of composite systems with extreme temperature resistance.

“With our vertically-integrated development approach, from computational material discovery through to production of advanced composite solutions, Cambium is redefining rapid innovation, production and deployment,” Cambium co-founder and CEO Simon Waddington told Urethanes Technology International. “We see a unique opportunity with Checkerspot to seamlessly leverage all of it to rapidly advance biobased, impact-resistant, high-temperature and flame-retardant foam products and composite-foam systems. This is a great opportunity to showcase the complementarity that exists between us.”
