In Tennessee, Trillium Renewable Chemicals has chosen the INEOS Green Lake site, located in Port Lavaca, Texas, for its first demonstration-scale plant to produce biobased acrylonitrile. The process, which uses glycerol as feedstock, has already been tested at pilot scale.

Acrylonitrile is a key raw material in numerous industries, including toys, auto parts, aerospace components, medical supplies, and apparel.

Corey Tyree, CEO of Trillium Renewable Chemicals, noted that INEOS Green Lake is the largest acrylonitrile production plant in the world. “This milestone is a significant step forwards in bringing our technology to market and producing sustainable biobased acrylonitrile at scale,” he added.

Trillium’s efforts to scale up are supported by a $10.6 million Series A financing round in December 2022 and $2.5 million award from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office in June 2022.
