In Barcelona, a coffee shop has been designed with furniture 3D-printed using a material based on coffee waste and common bioplastic polylactic acid.

Conceived by LOWPOLY’s Antoni Gaudí, the D·Origen Coffee Shop “exemplifies the sustainable reuse of coffee waste, transforming it into functional design elements,” according to a review on designboom.com. “The architectural vision, inspired by the fluidity of coffee, translates sensory experiences into tangible forms,” the publication added. “Industrial robotic arms ensured precision in crafting the bespoke pieces, resulting in five unique elements that define the coffee shop’s aesthetic.”

Custom counters, lamps, and stools were manufacture using large-format, advanced 3D printers and modified Rev3rd extruders.
