In South Carolina, Cambio Roasters is working to make wasteful but wildly popular single coffee pods, known as K cups, more sustainable. The brand first created pods made with just two materials—polypropylene and aluminum—to facilitate recycling.

To these efforts it has added packaging for the K cups in biodegradable, molded pulp containers that act as mini recycling bins for the pods or, alternatively, as a single-use compost bin for coffee grounds and other kitchen scraps.

According to Yanko Design, the packaging even features an adhesive-free band for added sustainability.

“With people becoming more conscious with how they consume products, it is good that more sustainable brands are emerging,” Yanko Design’s Ida Torres writes. “We stan these brands that not only think of their main products but also their packaging, which can sometimes get lost in the shuffle.”
