In Germany, SA-Dynamics has developed a biobased aerogel insulation for construction textiles that performs similarly to petroleum-based incumbent materials, including polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene, and polypropylene.

The gels feature a nanopore system of fibers that are up to 90% air and won the “New Technologies on Sustainability & Recycling” category textile trade fairs Techtextil and Texprocess.

“By using bio-based aerogels, we are doing away with fossil-based materials and doing something for the environment and climate,” Maximilian Mohr, CTO at SA-Dynamics, tells Fibre2Fashion. “We are thus meeting the regulatory measures of the EU and the governments of many countries for more climate and environmental protection. By using bio-based, recyclable aerogels, we can revolutionize the world of construction.”
