In Maryland, U.S. Soy and Stanley Black & Decker outdoor brand DEWALT have developed soy-based Bar & Chain Biodegradable Oil for chainsaws and other chain-driven equipment. According to Ag Daily, the environmentally friendly oil is available at Home Depot and online retailers like Bomgaars, Mac Tools, Grainger, and Amazon.
The product was endorsed by Buckin’ Billy Ray Smith, of History Channel Ax Men series fame. Smith, who has been a logging professional for 30 years, said the soy-based oil “has just the right amount of tack… Now it’s the only thing I use, including in my vintage saws. It’s also better for the environment, especially in sensitive areas around watersheds, and for workers who get the oil on their hands and breathe it in.”
