In India, Praj Industries has told Times of India that its polylactic acid pilot plant will come online by April. Scaling the biodegradable and biobased plastic is in line with Praj’s efforts to develop renewable chemicals and recent policy announcements by the Indian government.
“Our work to develop technologies for biopolymers and bioplastics are at the cusp of commercialization and the government’s focus on growing biomanufacturing is an excellent step which will boost the bioeconomy in the country,” Pramod Chaudhari, founder chairman of the company, told the publication. The move can provide a solution to the problem of plastic which can be replaced by biodegradable variant.”
Praj also has technology for producing other bioplastics, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates and polyhydroxybutyrate.
