Gulf Biopolymers plans Abu Dhabi PLA plant

In Abu Dhabi, Gulf Biopolymers Industries Ltd. plans to build a polylactic acid plant at a Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi site. The plant will eventually produce 30,000 metric tons of the bioplastic and be the first producer of the biodegradable polymer in the Middle East, said Port News.

“GBI’s venture is a leap towards meeting the global demand for sustainable products and driving further research and development in biodegradable polymers,” according to the publication.

GBI signed a 50-year lease agreement with KEZAD that includes advanced infrastructure and a “supportive ecosystem to foster growth and innovation.”
