In Helsinki, Neste Corporation and laboratory equipment manufacturer Eppendorf have partnered to produce and sell lab consumables made from renewable raw materials.

Under the terms of the agreement, Neste will supply its Neste RE™ material to Eppendorf as an alternative to conventional fossil feedstock in the manufacturing of lab consumables.

Made from cooking oil, Neste RE will be used to produce tubes sold under the Eppendorf Consumables BioBased brand. The line of lab products also includes screw caps and epT.I.P.S.® BioBased filter pipette tips, which are made from renewable polypropylene developed in collaboration with other suppliers. The renewable content allocation to the products is implemented through a mass balancing approach to ensure transparency.

“[B]y combining our expertise with Neste’s, we have been able to deliver high-performance sustainable plastic consumables that can help the scientific community to reduce its carbon footprint,” Brigitte Klose, Global Marketing Manager for Consumables at Eppendorf, said in a press statement.
