In California, Amyris, a renewable chemicals and consumer goods firm that recently declared bankruptcy, has closed its Onda Beauty brand.

According to Beauty Matter, Onda Beauty was launched in 2014 by Larissa Thompson, Sarah Bryden-Brown, and actress Naomi Watts. Watts and Amyris partnered in July 2021 “to create a new consumer brand to provide science-backed, menopause wellness personal care.” Onda Beauty was subsequently acquired by Amyris in April 2022 amid a buying spree of consumer-focused brands.

Onda Beauty operates stores in Tribeca and Sag Harbor and is known for selling products free from a list of 79 blacklisted ingredients. Amyris also closed its Costa Brazil brand, but has has indicated it will sell most of its brands as it exits consumer goods to refocus on developing biobased materials.
