In California, cultivated meat pioneer UPSIDE Foods has received U.S. Department of Agriculture label approval for its cultivated chicken. The move paves the way for UPSIDE Foods to proceed with obtaining a Grant of Inspection for its Engineering, Production, and Innovation Center.

Once UPSIDE Foods obtains the GOI from USDA, it will be authorized to commence commercial production and sales in the US.  Following completion of this final regulatory requirement, UPSIDE’s cultivated chicken will be initially launched in limited quantities through select restaurant partners, beginning with Bar Crenn, a three-Michelin star restaurant owned by Chef Dominique Crenn in San Francisco.
