DiCaprio-backed brand designs plant-based sneaker

In London, a sustainable brand that includes acting powerhouse Leonardo DiCaprio among its investors has unveiled a line of sneakers made from corn-based leather.

LØCI tells Plant-Based News the sneakers are equal parts maize waste and recycled polyurethane. Recycled plastic bottles, recycled nylon and brass, cork, bamboo, and natural rubber are also used for different elements of the sneakers. The line is handmade in Portugal and is available in black and white, red, green, and blue. The sneakers retail for $215.

“We believe that the measure of our success lies in the magnitude of our impact,” CEO Emmanuel Eribo said in a statement. “Today, it is crucial to go beyond creating exceptional products; we are here to drive change. That is why it is always imperative for us to think differently and swim against the tide.”

Ben Affleck, Jessica Alba, and Mila Kunis are also said to be fans of LØCI sneakers.
