In Colorado, baseball legend Derek Jeter has invested in alternative protein company Meati Foods and joined the company as an advisor.
Based in Boulder, Meati products use mushroom root and are available at Sprouts markets nationwide as well as restaurants like PLNT Burger.
“When it came to considering an investment in this industry, I had three main priorities in evaluating the food: nutrition, sustainability and taste,” Jeter said in a press statement. “Meati certainly delivers, with great quality steaks and cutlets and an institutional emphasis on high nutritional value and sustainable practices.”
Jeter spent his 20-year baseball career with the New York Yankees. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
