In London, venture capital firm Agronomics has invested £1 million ($1.3 million) in cultivated pet food maker Good Dog Food. The veteran cellular ag investor brought the total funding round to £3.6 million and gained a 42.4% stake in GDF.

Agronomics estimates food for companion animals comprises nearly 25% of US meat production. Good Dog Food offers a sustainable and slaughter-free alternative to conventional meat production—and the 65 million metric tons of CO2-equivalent methane and nitrous oxide the industry generates.

“As a dog owner, I have been looking for high-quality alternatives to traditional meat to provide to my dogs—Good Dog Food will do exactly that. It is even more exciting to know that Good Dog Food may accelerate the introduction of cultivated meat to the broader public,” Agronomics executive director Jim Mellon said in Cell-Based News.
