In Massachusetts, sneaker brand Saucony is set to launch a 90% biobased shoe.
Sneaker News reports that the Saucony Sustainable Shadow 6000 features a heel tab, midfoot, and foxing—the material on a shoe’s heel—made from a mushroom-based leather alternative. Other renewable components include a cork footbed and hemp-based mesh.
The sneaker is part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, and its launch was timed to coincide with Earth Day. Like most Saucony sneakers, the construction has a vintage vibe, and colors include a muted pink finish, burgundy nubuck overlays, cream midsole, and olive-colored tongue tabs. It will be available April 22 for $130 on Saucony’s website.
