In London, green finance firm Treecard has launched a debit card made of wood.

The company hopes its cards will provide a viable alternative to the mass-produced plastic debit and credit cards that make up  the vast majority of category.

Treecards supports digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay and feature the chips that have become a common security feature on debit and credit cards. The company also plants a tree for every $50 a user spends using the card and promises to never use profits to finance fossil fuels or projects that contribute to deforestation. “We are an impact first business, and 80% of profits go toward reforestation projects,” according to the company’s website.
