In Copenhagen, design firm Natural Material Studio says it has developed a biomaterial gift wrap for noted fashion brand Calvin Klein.
In keeping with Calvin Klein’s minimalist style, the wraps are neutral in tone and made from of Natural Material Studio’s own Procel material, which is a combination of protein bioplastic, natural softener and natural pigments. The wrapping, which debuted first in Copenhagen, also includes a biomaterial ribbon.
“We wanted to design gift wrapping that could be reused, to challenge the whole single-use culture that especially accelerates during Christmas,” studio founder Bonnie Hvillum tells design publication Dezeen. “Our original inspiration was the Calvin Klein universe. We wanted to capture a contemporary, minimalistic and organic tone in our material colors and tactilities.”
Hvillum hopes the “bespoke gift pouch[es}” spark “new conversations” over the holidays.
