In New York, popular Bravo reality show Project Runway has featured a competition where contestants had to create designs out of Koba, a biobased faux fur made from DuPont’s Sorona fibers and developed in collaboration with Ecopel.

Episode 1907, entitled Are You Fur Real, aired last week. Designers had access to Koba in varying colors and patterns, including faux furs mimicking leopard, cheetah, coyote, wool, and rabbit.

Series regulars Nina Garcia and Elaine Welteroth, together with guest judges Esteban Cortazar and Billy Porter, ultimately chose the submission of Chasity Sereal & Prajjé Oscar Jean-Baptiste. The pair created a pink Sorona faux fur bodice and pillars with a “bespoke street art style skirt.”

“This episode of Bravo’s Project Runway is a call to action for the industry. Luxury and faux fur are not mutually exclusive,” says Sorona® Global Brand & Communications Leader Alexa Raab. “The world’s most influential thought leaders in fashion and media are advocating for innovative, sustainable fabrics.”

Stella McCartney, Maison Atia, and Karl Lagerfeld have also featured Sorona in their work.
