In Qatar, food tech Eat Just is planning to build a production plant for cultured chicken and vegan eggs.
Doha Venture Capital contributed a “relevant chunk” of the financing for the $200-million plant, which will take about two years to build, Eat Just CEO Josh Tetrick tells Bloomberg. The new plant will be also be significantly larger than the facility Eat Just operates in Singapore. “We want to build facilities that are making a lot of meat,” Tetrick adds.
Singapore is the only country to have approved cultured meat for human consumption, but Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health is expected to grant regulatory approval shortly.
