In California, popular fuzzy boot maker UGG has launched a collection of shoes incorporating materials made from sugarcane and wood.
Dubbed Plant Power, the collection includes three styles. The Fluff Sugar Platform and Fluff Sugar Sandal shoes maintain Ugg’s fluffy interior using TENCEL Lyocell, a material produced by Austria’s Lenzing from sustainably harvested trees. The soles are made of a material produced using sugarcane as raw material. The Chukka boots are also lined with TENCEL but with soles made of LACTAE HEVEA, a renewable latex obtained from the Hevea tree.
“Our design team took inspiration from our iconic styles and created new silhouettes with carbon-neutral, plant-based materials,” Andrea O’Donnell, president of UGG, tells Plant-Based News. “The resulting Plant Power Collection tells a story about what is possible and it’s an exciting step in on our journey towards a more sustainable future.”
The shoes sell for $120-$140 a pair.
